How is OT different than PT?
I often meet clients who’ve worked with pelvic PT in the past and are seeking a new perspective. Do we share an understanding of the physical body and how it moves? Yes! Do we often work in similar settings? Also, yes. Of course, I’m biased, so I can only speak for OT. Perhaps the distinction is that we consider how one’s life experience interacts with their unique context, physical, and psycho-emotional factors.
As a client, you might not notice a difference at first. But you’ll likely be asked different questions about your daily life and how your pelvic health concerns impact your ability to participate in life. To get to the heart of the matter, we will ask you a LOT of questions about specific things.
Occupational therapists are also fantastic problem solvers. We might suggest some goofy ideas for strategies and ask for your input. We will hopefully have some fun together in the process! Most importantly, we will find tools that work for your routine and life balance.
